Team Building for High Performance
Consensus is going to be the appropriate decision strategy for most influential team decisions. Keep in mind though, that all of the team members should understand and appreciate what consensus means. Your team building is going to be a waste of time if team members don't understand and appreciate the decision making process. A common delusion regarding consensus is that it means everybody agrees with decisions completely. What consensus truly means is that each person on the team can totally back and tolerate the decision. The most common complication with decision making using consensus is that it's energy consuming for the team. Decisions using consensus should be reserved for significant decisions that would require strong team member support.
Team communication can commonly be a huge barrier for the team. Team members won't usually conceal information willfully. Failure to share information is usually the result of not being aware of what things others require, or assuming what may occur when and if particular information is confided.
Team conflict doesn't ever occur all of a sudden. It's generally rooted in the team's past history that's had other related problems team building and needs a continuing team intervention approach to fix. To find the cause of the team conflict, speak with all of the team members and collect results on a team level. Then speak with each team member to clear up the data.
If your team leader isn't showing the way for members of your team, you may have a problem on your hands. A quality team leader has a strong mixture of both team management and team leadership skills. It is a person who will handle the day-to-day procedures by making sure they delegate to team members and then getting out of the way. It's also important that the team leader be an enthusiast that can in essence pull the team along without having to push them toward the team goal.
